In their final match of the IPL 2025 season, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) put on a show against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), thanks to a stunning performance by skipper Rishabh Pant. The left-handed batter scored an unbeaten 118 runs off just 61 balls, hitting 11 fours and 8 sixes, helping LSG reach a strong total of 227/3 at the Ekana Stadium on May 27.
Pant, who had struggled throughout the season with a low strike rate of just 107, saved his best for last. Team owner Sanjiv Goenka praised the captain's efforts, calling the knock ‘Pantastic!’
Pant and Mitchell Marsh (67 off 37 balls) shared a brilliant 152-run partnership for the second wicket. The LSG duo made the most of a good batting pitch and some poor bowling from RCB.
Pant got his innings going in the fourth over by taking 18 runs off Yash Dayal, including a six and two fours. After that, he never looked back. Once he stopped trying to overhit the ball, his timing and power came naturally, and he batted with a strike rate close to 200.
Marsh, too, started slowly—scoring only 19 from his first 16 balls—but soon shifted gears. He smashed a big six off Romario Shepherd and didn’t slow down from there. Pant brought up his half-century in 29 balls, while Marsh reached his in 31, marking his best IPL season with over 600 runs.
Despite a difficult season, Pant ended on a high note with a captain’s knock that energized both his team and the fans.
