Vaibhav Suryavanshi made quiet and entrance, hammering a lively 68 and leading India’s Under 19 team to a comfortable 8 wicket win over South Africa in the second ODI. The chase never really looked tricky. Suryavanshi, opening the innings, batted with a cool headway beyond his age and pretty much ended South Africa’s hope single handedly. Honestly, it just underscored how dominant India’s youth teams have become lately.
India won the toss and choose to bowl, and that call worked out right away. The bowlers got stuck in from the start, mixing up pace and spin, and South Africa never found any real rhythm. Wickets fell regularly. The visitors just could not get going and by the end the total they manage was well below par.
India’s pacer did the early damage, moving the new ball around and rattling the South African top order. Then the spinners stepped in, clamping down and building pressure, which led to some soft wickets. South Africa’s middle order tried to fight back. But they never got any momentum and boundaries were rare.
When it was India’s turn to bat ,all eyes were on Suryavanshi. He got going right from the first over, punishing anything loose and leaving the good balls alone. His plan was obvious, finished the chase quickly and gave South Africa no hope of her comeback. He mixed aggression with calm, picked his gaps, rotated the strike and anything over paged or short he put away with ease. The cover drives looked great, so did the pulls and his team and the crowd loved it. South Africa’s bowlers tried all short changing, pace length, whatever, but Suryavanshi just adjusted and carried on.
Controlling the power play, Suryavanshi never got reckless. He picked his shots, kept the scoreboard moving and brought up his 50 in no time, showing he could score fast without losing his shape by the time he walked off for 68 the match was done and dusted.
At the other end his opening partners stayed solid making sure with no drama. The middle order wrapped things up without fuss and India cruised home with plenty of cover left. the whole chase showed of just how deep and balance this squad.
This win puts India in a strong spot in the series and really shows how much talent is coming through the under 19 setup. Suryavanshi is innings proof just how well India is developing Young, confident, technical, sound players.
For South Africa, this loss will sting. Their bowlers had some good moments, but with so few runs on the board, they never had much of a chance. They will have to rethink their batting plans moving forward.
As the series Rolls on ,Suryavanshi is knock is going to be one people remember he stayed calm, played fearlessly and made a big statement not just to the other team but to anyone watching. If this is what he is capable of, India cricket fans are going to hear his name a lot more in the years ahead.
