In advance of the upcoming three-match T20I series between India and Bangladesh, the first match takes place on 6 October 2025. Skipper Surya Yadav has praised pace bowler Mayank Yadav.

What he said

Surya said – Mayank has that X factor we have seen that in the IPL and that extra pace is his XFactor. He admit that he has not yet bowled to Mayank in the nets but has seen what he can do and the impact he can have on game.

Surya also emphasized that Mayank needs to be managed effectively with the schedule of domestic cricket and international cricket complementing each other .

Why This Matters

Mayank Yadav’s trailblazing elevation to this point has included bowling some high-speed deliveries in the IPL, which is why his selection in the national side became a hot topic of discussion. Additionally, public support from a senior player in Surya only helps fuel confidence about Mayank’s selection and role. In T20 cricket  X-factor players, those who can make instant changes to matches to matches quickly are necessary, and having a pace bowler with that extra speed is a weapon.

What to Look For

Whether or not Mayank gets to play in the playing XI for the first test, Surya definitely kept that decision close to the chest. How Mayank handles pressure will obviously be viewed just a bit more closely, considering his history with injuries, and especially that Surya flagged workload management. What exactly will be his role? Will he bowl his full complement of overs, or will he be brought into the game with a little more restraint? Surya’s comments seem to suggest tempered optimism.

This is smart by the indian team management. By putting a public vote of confidence in Mayank Yadav, obviously, Surya Kumar Yadav is, which implies that Surya has confidence in him, and that might go a long way, particularly in building a young player’s confidence. On the other hand, this sets up a reasonable baseline expectation by saying the phrase “ manage him well “ while still setting him up to be the “ need to know “ player he is. If he responds, he could indeed be the potential X factor for India in this series. Otherwise, the hype has already served its purpose, and he’s been positioned as a game changer, along with being put on a pedestal.
