Before the big Ashes 2025 cricket series, Australia's fast bowler Josh Hazlewood said many good things about England's batters, calling them the best group he has ever faced.
Hazlewood thinks England will come to Australia with one of their strongest batting teams in many years. At a cricket event, the experienced bowler talked about how good and deep England's batting is. He specially mentioned Joe Root and Harry Brook, who are ranked as the top two Test batters in the world right now.
"England has been playing on easy batting pitches lately, and they had a very dry summer, so the pitches are getting tired and will probably help spin bowlers more," Hazlewood said about England's recent games.
"I think Harry Brook will do well. He's a really good player. He's at the top for a good reason, and he'll be hard to get out. A new player like Brook might find it easier because he has no bad memories and can just play his natural game," he added.
Hazlewood also talked about Joe Root, the world's number one Test batter, who wants to score his first Test hundred in Australia.
"When Root first came here, we had different bowlers like Mitchell Johnson, Ryan Harris, and Peter Siddle. Nathan Lyon has been around for a long time, and we just followed their lead. Joe is playing the best cricket of his life right now. They have an amazing batting team, honestly. Their top seven batters have all done really well, so it will be tough for us," the bowler said.
Root started playing Test cricket in Australia back in 2013. He has played 14 matches there and scored 892 runs, averaging about 36 runs per game.
The England batting star has been playing amazingly well in the last couple of years.
In a recent five-game series against India, Root passed former Australia captain Ricky Ponting to become the second-highest run scorer in Test cricket history. The 34-year-old also became the first batter ever to score 6000 runs in the World Test Championship.
England will be counting on Root to bat well as they try to beat Australia in a Test series for the first time since 2015.
